Farxiga, brand name of the drug dapagliflozin is prescribed to lower the blood sugar levels in adults. It is used to treat the type 2 diabetes and is never used for type-1 diabetes. It is an oral medication which works by assisting the kidneys in absorbing more glucose from the body. There are some serious side effects linked with the medication. The FDA issued a safety warning highlighting any SGLT2 medication that can cause life threatening condition called diabetic ketoacidosis. It happens because the body breakdowns the fat releasing high level of ketones being unable to use the glucose for energy. The blood becomes acidic because of this. Early signs of side effects that caused ketoacidosis include fruity breath, nausea, fatigue, difficulty in breathing, flushed skin, abdominal pain, vomiting and confusion. Certain conditions can
